💼 £75,000 – £85,000 + Car Allowance & Benefits Package
📍 Aztec West, North Bristol (BS32)
🏗 Education | Health | Public Sector | Commercial | Design & Build | Main Contractor

Walker & Sloan are working with one of the UK’s leading Tier 1 main contractors to recruit an experienced Project Manager to join the regional building business at Aztec West, delivering major projects across Bristol and the South West.

Our client is a highly respected national construction group with more than a century of heritage, an outstanding reputation for quality and safety, and long-standing relationships with public and private sector clients across the UK.

Their regional building business delivers a diverse portfolio of new build and refurbishment projects across education, health, public sector and commercial construction, with much of the work secured through established framework positions and repeat clients.

With a strong order book and a healthy pipeline of upcoming projects across the region, the business continues to invest in its people and strengthen its delivery teams.

For an ambitious Project Manager looking to take genuine ownership of significant building projects within a stable, well-resourced Tier 1 business, this represents an exceptional opportunity.

The Opportunity

As Project Manager, you’ll take full responsibility for the successful delivery of building projects from pre-construction handover through to completion, ensuring each scheme is delivered safely, on programme, to the highest quality and within budget.

Working closely with the Operations Director, Commercial, Design and Pre-construction teams, you’ll be the driving force behind your projects, leading the site team and acting as the main point of contact for the client and their professional team.

You’ll have genuine autonomy to shape how your projects are planned and delivered, with the backing of a business that has the systems, supply chain and resources to support you.

Importantly, this isn’t simply a site-based delivery role. You’ll be a key leader within the regional business, influencing programme strategy, design development and client relationships on every scheme you deliver.

The Role

You’ll lead the delivery of projects through every stage of construction, taking ownership of the programme, look-aheads, progress reporting and the performance of the supply chain.

Working alongside the design team, you’ll manage design coordination on design and build schemes, ensuring information is delivered on time and that buildability, quality and cost are considered at every stage.

You’ll play a pivotal role in managing the site team, with Site Managers and engineers reporting to you, setting clear standards and holding subcontractors to account.

A key part of the position will involve building strong relationships with clients, end users and consultants, providing confident reporting and ensuring each project leaves a lasting, positive impression.

You’ll champion health, safety, quality and environmental standards on site, leading by example and embedding the business’s safety-first culture across your projects.

You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor and develop Site Managers and Assistant Project Managers, helping build the next generation of delivery leaders within the region.

About You

You’ll be an established Project Manager with a recognised main contractor, or a highly capable Senior Site Manager or Contracts Manager ready to take the step up.

You’ll bring a strong track record of delivering building projects from start to finish, with the confidence to lead teams, manage clients and take ownership of complex schemes.

Experience within education, health, public sector or commercial construction, particularly design and build and framework projects, would be particularly advantageous.

You’ll ideally demonstrate:

  • Proven experience delivering building projects of around £5m–£40m for a main contractor
  • Strong programming and planning skills, ideally using Asta Powerproject or similar
  • Experience managing design coordination on design and build schemes
  • Confident leadership of site teams and subcontractors
  • Excellent client-facing communication and reporting skills
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental standards
  • A solid understanding of JCT and/or NEC contracts

A degree, HNC or HND in Construction Management or a related discipline is preferred, along with SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid. MCIOB, or progress towards it, would be advantageous.

Tier 1 experience would be highly beneficial, although strong Project Managers from regional contractors delivering similar building projects are strongly encouraged to apply.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who combines excellent delivery capability with a proactive, client-focused approach and the confidence to take full ownership of significant projects.

What’s on Offer?

  • £75,000 – £85,000 basic salary
  • Car allowance
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • The opportunity to lead significant building projects across Bristol and the South West
  • Genuine ownership and autonomy over project delivery
  • A strong, long-term pipeline of education, health, public sector and commercial work
  • Clear progression towards Senior Project Manager within a long-established Tier 1 business
  • The opportunity to mentor and develop the next generation of site and project leaders
