The Opportunity
A growing contractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Newport.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a business delivering a diverse range of refurbishment, construction and building projects across both public and private sector environments. The company has built a strong reputation for quality, craftsmanship and client service, with projects spanning commercial, education, healthcare, residential and industrial sectors.
The role offers exposure to a varied project portfolio, close interaction with senior leadership and genuine opportunities for progression as the business continues to expand. As an added bonus, the team will be relocating to a brand-new office next month, providing a modern and collaborative working environment.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for:
- Managing the commercial aspects of multiple construction and refurbishment projects
- Producing and maintaining CVRs
- Cost reporting and forecasting project performance
- Managing subcontractor procurement and tender packages
- Preparing subcontract orders and managing subcontract accounts
- Valuing and agreeing variations
- Producing applications for payment and interim valuations
- Monitoring project budgets and identifying commercial risks
- Managing change control procedures
- Producing final accounts
- Working closely with operational teams to maximise project profitability
- Supporting senior commercial staff with reporting and project reviews
About You
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor ready to step up
- Main contractor experience preferred
- Strong understanding of CVRs, forecasting and cost control
- Experience managing subcontractor procurement
- Knowledge of variations and final accounts
- Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities
- Construction-related qualification preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting systems
- Ambitious and keen to progress within a growing business
